#6 Spots & Pots. Damien & Ronnie.

This post is a bit of an amalgamation of all things multi-coloured and feel-good. There is some nostalgia in here as well as some more recent pieces of pop culture. All-in-all, the post was inspired by the unlikely friendship between snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan and artist Damien Hirst, which we will make like a korma and mildly touch upon.

Kellogg’s Variety Pack

Bursting with colour and a variety of different flavours this bad boy was a must bring on a staycation holiday. I always left the multigrain orange one to the end hoping we’d be home before I’d have to eat it, although my palette has since matured so I would probably enjoy it now, tasty!

Ice Cream Spoons

I love the colours on these things, and I’ve had decent luck throughout the years with regards to how little I’ve snapped mine when diving in for a monster scoop above the recommended weight restriction for the spoon. They’re not really spoons, more spades, which is proper seaside and also tells the world that sometimes an unorthodox approach is better than the close-minded norm.

Mr Men

Wasn’t much of a reader back in the day but my goodness these things were incredible. Also how mad is it the amount you can remember by looking at the photo of them?

Watches

This one doesn’t really go that deep I just remember people crawling over eachother to buy them in primark, they always broke (band snapped or battery died) but they looked very cool and I might bring them back actually come to think of it, I’ll see if I can find them online.

Certified Lover Boy Album Cover

This is the point in time I realised some bloke  Damien Hirst existed, which is very uncultured of me but I never appreciated art as a child. The cover by the British artist certainly got people talking, I loved it, and I also loved how the pregnant ladies did the wee wiggle on Spotify. Fair Trade and Knife Talk are my songs of choice from this.

Smarties

Collecting 20p’s for charity and not believing the conspiracy that the orange ones are chocolate orange! Smarties, I will eat you out of a bowl at a party but I will never buy you. However, Smarties bars? White chocolate Smarties buttons? Smarties ice cream? Get in my basket!

Snooker

Pod the reds then, screw back, for the yellow green blue brown pink and black!

Snooker has to be one of the prettiest looking sports, when those coloured balls are scattered over the green baize, stunning! Also, easily in my top 3 what I call ‘Sunday Sports’. By that I mean sports you can watch whilst dozing on a Sunday afternoon after a roast.

Damien Hirst, artist and friend of Ronnie O’Sullivan (snooker’s goat), says this about snooker… ‘I think it’s art at the end of the day, its a really great example of art because its full of contradictions.’

Here’s Ronnie at his artistic best…

Damien and Ronnie in the back of a cab, Damien wearing what must have been Pep Guardiola’s hoody inspiration, cool glasses and holding a BlackBerry 9360 (I think).
